Nanyin Songs |
Nanyin is a kind of story telling which uses poems with seven characters or the Song Ci Poems accompanied by a few instruments. This genre was originated in the Song Dynasty and different provinces had different styles of singing according to the dialect. In Central China and Northern China story tellings are called "Tan-ci" and are accompanied by stringed instruments like Pipa, Sanxian and Erhu. From the very beginning Nanyin singers were mostly blind. They made their living by divination and fortune telling in villages. The type of Nanyin sung by the blind singers is called "Di Shui Nanyin" and the blind men are called "Ah Shui" and they do not feel blamed. |
